Angelina
by Timothy Braun
The western region premiere. It’s a late-autumn evening at the side of a road in rural Indiana. Two teenagers, Toby and Junior, are waiting for Junior’s father to pick them up after a Boy Scout trip. The themes of growing up - love, friendship, self-identity - are universal, as is our social and cultural need for a hero in whom to believe. Poverty, abuse, bullying, racism, teenage angst and violence, however ugly, are universal too. Two boys on the cusp of choosing what direction they will take with their lives. Depending on their decisions, things could go right or terribly wrong. The play was influenced partly by the assault that took place at Columbine High School in 1999.
