Chip thrives on the creative stimulus of his fellow artists and the lineage of teachers who have shaped his practice. His training started at San Diego Junior Theatre and San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts, and continued under the tutelage of teachers including Kristin Linklater, Anne Bogart, Robert Woodruff, Andrei Serban, and James Donlon. Chip earned his BFA from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and his MFA from Columbia University.

In Prague, Czech Republic, Chip was part of an international performance collective, Misery Loves Company, which combined physicality, puppetry, and theatrical experimentation — work that embodies his belief in using the arts to transcend borders and create access across all communities. Whether developing new works or applying contemporary methods to the classics, Chip is interested in live theatre as an event more than a destination.

Chip has performed on stages off-Broadway and regionally, as well as on screens large and small. He is an ensemble member of Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company (BETC) and serves on the faculty at the University of Colorado, where his teaching encompasses both live performance and acting for camera.
