The essence of the performing arts lies in its collaborative spirit, and Chip enjoys the camaraderie of his colleagues and collaborators. His training started at San Diego Junior Theatre and San Diego School of Creative and Performing arts, and continued under the tutelage of Kristin Linklater, Anne Bogart, Robert Woodruff, and Andrei Serban. Chip earned his BFA from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and his MFA from Columbia University.
Chip is interested in live theatre as an event rather than a just a location. He enjoys developing new works and applying contemporary methods to reveal fresh interpretations of the classics. He advocates for transcending geographical boundaries using the common language of the arts. In Prague, Czech Republic, Chip was part of an international performance collective, Misery Loves Company, which combined physicality, puppetry, and theatrical experimentation.
Chip has performed on stages off-Broadway and regionally, as well as on screens large and small. He is part of the artistic ensemble of Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company (BETC) and serves on the faculty at the University of Colorado.
